Sant declares opposition to Hondoq project

Labour leader Alfred Sant has declared that the development of tourist complex and yacht marina in the picturesque Hondoq ir-Rummien bay in Qala, Gozo should not go ahead, describing it as “harsh speculation”.
“The motor behind this project is nothing but big profits for certain people over this land,” Sant said, saying the land had great tourism potential and offers recreation and a better life for Gozitans, Maltese and tourists.
Sant also met Qala residents, saying their complaints on the project were justified, good and strong. “They deserve the support of all Maltese and Gozitans,” Sant said in a press conference at Hondoq after meeting residents and families.
Sant also said the Hondoq development project was not the sort of tourism development Gozitans and Qala residents needed. “Nor is it the way to create employment. It’s not true this project will lead to sustainable employment in Gozo for the long-term.”
Sant was accompanied by Gozo MPs Justyne Caruana and Anton Refalo, and environment spokesperson Roderick Galdes and local councillors.
