The Church’s environmental commission has stated that the Church is against the Hondoq ir-Rummien project as it is not sustainable.

The committee issued a very harsh reaction to the development last night, stating that after extensively studying the project and the development, the Commission concluded that to state that the project would offer Gozo’s people a better quality of life, would be a lie.

According to the Church commission, the project will not safeguard Gozo’s natural beauty, as much of the land surrounding the project may lead to the ruin of the surrounding land. They also stated that the project is socially insensitive.

“ To stop the project is not enough” stated the Church Commission, “This should only be the first step on an island that needs to incorporate more proactive ideas when it comes to Gozo’s land”.

The committee also spoke about the employment situation in Gozo, stating that it was preoccupied by the fact that there is a lack of investment in Gozo and a lack of work opportunities.

The environmental committee concluded that Gozo is not using its greatest resource, it’s hardworking and intelligent people; who are having to look for a better future elsewhere.
